One world, two taxes

In the quest of keeping billing boss simple, we tried very hard to resist the temptation of adding cool features. Wouldn't it be cool if we can support more than 2 taxes? (Only us will get excited about more taxes). Everyone in the world will be able to use our application! At the end, cooler heads prevailed. We looked at freshbooks and blinksale. Freshbooks supports four taxes and blinksale supports two. We like simple so 2 is good enough.

If we are wrong, please let us know.

We can discuss support for different decimal place next...

Your Feedback Matters

A great big “Thanks” to everyone that has taken the time to let us know what they think about Billing Boss – the good, the bad and the ugly. We value all your feedback and are capturing your suggestions with the goal of incorporating them into the product while still keeping it simple.

Some of your suggestions that we’re currently working on are: adding the ability to control taxes for each invoice item, the addition of an entry field to include information that is required on every invoice such as a tax number, along with a number of other enhancements that will be released at the end of this month.

We‘ll keep you updated on the latest improvements on our blog – so be sure to check back often – or sign up for the RSS feeds.

If you haven’t already, or have any more suggestions for Billing Boss, send us your suggestions.

Staying on the Rails

When we built Billing Boss we chose Ruby on Rails: it allows us to focus on what the application is supposed to do, and quickly build the right thing. Ruby on Rails is the brainchild of David Heinemeier Hansson of 37signals. We're fans of 37signals and their project management application Basecamp, from which Ruby on Rails originated. Ruby on Rails makes building web applications easy and fun.

For Billing Boss, Ruby on Rails was the right tool for the job. It kept us from being distracted by endless platform choices, architecture choices, and dozens of other factors that keep development teams spinning their wheels for years. We hope Billing Boss provides the right tools to get your billing done, and no more.
Choices are problematic, and we want to make things easy for you. Let us know where we're missing the mark.

Free? Really? Yes, Really.

Billing Boss is here to help you meet your #1 need (getting paid quickly and easily). It has to be free -- after all, you can easily write invoices by hand in Word. Where we will make money is when we solve harder problems for you.

Our merchant account offerings... online payments... echeck.... interac online... and PayPal, if that's what you want to use.

We're also working on other great services that will make it easy for you to manage and grow your business. When they're ready, we'll be looking for your feedback on those as well. In the meantime, enjoy Billing Boss and let us know what you think.

A simple solution for small businesses

We asked some small business owners why they don't use accounting software, and they explained that it didn't really meet their needs: too complex, too hard to learn accounting, and no real payback.

So we started from scratch and built something to solve their #1 need: get paid quickly and easily. Billing Boss is focused on getting that job done for small businesses, and on keeping things simple – and easy to hand off to an accountant or bookkeeper who can handle the rest. We want Billing Boss to be simple and easy to use.

Let us know how we can improve it – feel free to make a comment below, or send us feedback.
